Mark A Hertzberg O.D. AKA Doc Alan |
Mark Hertzberg is still a practicing Doctor of Optometry, as he has have been since 1982. He has been a "practicing" Standup Comedian longer than that. The minute he finished his last exam to become a doctor and realized that he needed new classes to attend, he began his studies of Improvisational Comedy.
Presently he manages to sneak a little time each week to do some standup. Mark still anchors most of the comedy shows at Sloane Kettering Memorial Hospital, where nobody knows of his secret (doctor) identity. At all other comedy venues he is called "Doc," but that was an agent's idea.
"Doc" runs an Improv workshop in Manhattan and his top students perform under the name "R. G. S." (Yes, that does stand for something, but one has to attend to find out what.)
Dr Hertzberg has two books in print and a couple in the works. When you consider that beside being available for seminars and lectures on doctor/patient communication he also gives seminars in using principles of humor, standup performance, and improv performance in real life and in corporate settings, you can probably guess the topics of the upcoming books.
